Drivers in Onondaga County should prepare for lane reductions along Interstate 481 as the New York Department of Transportation (NYDOT) implements necessary construction work over the next two weeks. The changes will affect both southbound and northbound traffic on I-481, impacting commute times.
Beginning Monday, April 7, through Wednesday, April 9, I-481 northbound will be reduced to one lane between Exit 1 (Brighton Ave/Rock Cut Road) and Exit 2 (Jamesville Rd/Jamesville). This reduction will occur daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Following that, starting Monday, April 7, and continuing through Friday, April 18, another lane reduction will take place on I-481 northbound between Exit 3W (DeWitt) and Exit 4 (I-690/Syracuse), also from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
On the southbound side, lane reductions on I-481 will start Thursday, April 10, and last until Friday, April 11, with one lane closed between Exit 2 (Jamesville Road/Jamesville) and Exit 1 (Brighton Ave/Rock Cut Road).
These lane closures are part of ongoing efforts to install noise barriers as part of the larger Interstate 81 Viaduct Project. Motorists are advised to plan their travel routes accordingly and expect delays during peak hours due to these temporary changes.
